Once a year, during the Colorado Public Health Association annual conference, public health professionals from across Colorado and Wyoming come together to learn from their colleagues and to celebrate the accomplishments of exemplary public health workers. Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) is proud to have several staff honored for their work in public health.
Heide Barthel, JCDHE Administrative Coordinator recipient of the 2005 Community Health Action-Motivated Person (CHAMP) Award
. The CHAMP Award recognizes a full-time public health employee in the state of Colorado who excels in helpful, courteous and professional service. Heidi was cited for her excellent organizational skills increasing clinic visits 25% without additional FTE; leading a clinic redesign project; reducing expenditures to labs and reference agencies and being an excellent role model for public health.
Elise Lubell, Health Promotion and Lifestyle Management Division Director winner of the 2005 Excellence in Public Health Education Award
. Elise was honored for her leadership in health education. She was especially noted for her work convening a community coalition including Kaiser Permanente, Kroenke Sports Enterprises, the City of Wheat Ridge, the Jefferson County R-1 School District, the Wheat Ridge Parks and and Recreation Department, and other community members to address rates of obesity and chronic disease. The coalition recently obtained funding for a Thriving Wheat Ridge project which will help address diet, physical activity and community planning and zoning.
Nancy Braden, JCDHE Health Communications Coordinator/Public Information Officer recipient of the 2005 John Muth Award
. This award is presented to a member of CPHA who has made an outstanding contribution to the association. Nancy was honored for her excellent work in health communications, including the design and implementation of the initial CPHA website.
In addition to the awards presented to JCDHE employees, at the Colorado Public Health Association
JCDHE Tobacco Prevention Coordinator, Donna Viverette was awarded the 2005 Asset Builder of the Year award by Parents and Community Connecting Together (PACCT)
. Donna was acknowledged for her excellent work with Jefferson County youth and communities. Donna was especially noted for her strong commitment to empowering youth in developing and exercising their unique abilities and leadership skills. Donna was also recognized for the support she gives encouraging community groups to act on health concerns important to them.
