Wheat Ridge student to visit Washington, D.C.
Contributed by: Sandy Kriegel on 10/11/2006

Editor's note: Sandy Kriegel submitted this story about her son, CJ, along with the letter announcing his acceptance into the People to People World Leadership Forum.

C.J. is attending Everett Middle School in Wheat Ridge. He is in seventh grade. He likes middle school; especially the food choices that elementary did not offer.

He is self-motivated and outgoing. He likes to do his homework as soon as he can. He knows his own busy schedule and often reminds his parents about appointments and events that he needs to attend. He was the class president at Wilmore Davis Elementary. C.J. has no problem getting in front of large crowds and giving a speech. He is playing football this year for the Wheat Ridge Blue Socks. C.J. plays the trumpet in band class. He is in a math honors class and he will be receiving high school history credit and high school community credit for the Washington, D.C., trip.

He has two older sisters and one younger brother. He makes the most out of each day. One of his qualities that I feel will make him an excellent employee someday is that he never misses school or practice at any event that he has committed to be at.

He has an attendance record at Wilmore Davis that is outstanding. He missed four days in first grade when he was sick and those were the only days he missed in the entire seven years of being at that school. He had no tardies and is often sitting in the car waiting for the rest of his family so he will not be late! He likes to tell jokes and is fun to be around.

Here's the text of the letter about C.J.'s acceptance into the program.

C.J. Kriegel, a student at Wilmore Davis Elementary, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Kriegel will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C., March 26 through April 1, 2007, to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United States' most prominent monuments and institutions.

From Capitol Hill to the Smithsonian Institute, and from Colonial Williamsburg to the National Museum of American History, Kriegel will examine the characteristics of American leadership during times of national challenge and prosperity. Forum delegates will also participate in small-group discussions and exercises to experience first hand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus and foster change. Kriegel was nominated and accepted for the honor based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

The program is coordinated by People to People Student Ambassador Programs to fulfill the vision Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956.
