Man evades police by jumping barbed wire fence
A 39-year-old Wheat Ridge male was arrested July 6 after running from an officer after he was spotted next to a stolen Yukon truck at Johnson Park. The male ran through a greenbelt, hopped two barbed wire fences and stole a bike to escape an officer who caught the man and tackled him to the ground. Paramedics took the man to Denver General because he was having trouble breathing and said he was coughing up blood. The man, who had a felony warrant out for his arrest, later admitted he was "coming down" from cocaine. Stolen clothing and a white substance, which appeared to be cocaine was found in the stolen truck. A 26-year-old Denver woman also was arrested in the incident. She was standing near the passenger side of the parked car when an officer approached it. She said she stole the clothes, but didn't know the car was stolen.
Woman conceals cosmetics in purse
On July 8, a 32-year-old Lakewood woman was arrested for theft and drug possession at the Walgreen's at 4401 Wadsworth Blvd. A store manager told the reporting officer the suspect was still inside the store and she had placed several cosmetic items in her purse without paying for them. The suspect had paid for items in her cart, but when the manager asked to look in her purse, there were eight cosmetic items totaling $55.60 from the store that hadn't been purchased. The officer then searched the suspect's purse and found two glass pipes containing what appeared to be marijuana residue and a small fuse box with a number of different colored pills. The woman was taken to the Wheat Ridge Police Department. She was issued a summons for theft and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and released.
Fireworks the possible cause of fireOn July 4, a tree and fence on the 6200 block of W. 46 th Place were damaged when they caught on fire, which was possibly sparked by fireworks. The Wheat Ridge Fire Department extinguished the fire. A witness said he had seen a group of people lighting fireworks, "the ones that fly in the air and explode" on the 4600 block of Jay Street. The witness said all of the people suddenly left in cars and threw fireworks out the window as they drove off. Shortly after the cars left, the witness noticed the fire. The officers were unable to determine how the fire was started, but witnesses suggested the fire was caused by fireworks. The man at the Jay Street residence was issued a fireworks violation summons.
