Family dog found, car still missing
Contributed by: Brit Horvat/YourHub.com on 7/1/2007

A Windsor family that had their vacation-packed 2000 Lexus SUV stolen June 30 has been reunited with the one posession that matters most: their yellow Lab, Ute.

Ute was in the backseat of the Seeton family's car when it was stolen June 30 from the Shell gas station at the intersection of Interstate 70 and Kipling Street. The family was headed to Buena Vista for a vacation when the vehicle was stolen.

At 8:30 a.m. July 2, the was informed by the Wheat Ridge Police Department that they may have recovered their dog. After James Seeton and his two sons arrived at the police department to see whether or not it was their dog, they confirmed that it was in fact Ute.

The Sand family, who resides in Arvada, had discovered the dog during an afternoon picnic June 30 at Rocky Mountain Lake Park, at Hooker Street and West 46th Avenue.

"We were just hanging out at the park when the dog approached us and started playing with the kids. I knew it had to be a family dog because of how friendly it was with everyone," said Mr. Sand, who asked that his first name not be used. "When it was almost hit by a car, we knew we had to take the dog in and find the owner."

According to Sand, their next door neighbor had seen the story about the missing dog and told them to call the Wheat Ridge Police immediately. Wheat Ridge Animal Control and the Wheat Ridge Police were able to scan the microchip on the dog and find out it was him.

Seeton was overjoyed when he confirmed that they had finally spotted Ute, especially after not sleeping for two days and trying to be there for his two sons.

"You can deal with your own grief, but you can't do anything for your children's grief," said Seeton. "We're so thankful for all the help that everyone's given us in this search."

While thefamily is relieved to have found their dog, their taupe 2000 Lexus LX 470 SUV is still missing. The license plate number is 674-EMJ and was last seen at 32nd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

According to Seeton, the running board on the right side of the vehicle is bent, there is a large bike rack on the roof and a black grill on the front.

Anyone with information is asked tocall the Wheat Ridge Police Department at 303-237-2220 or James Seeton at 970-674-5146.

It is great to hear a story where value is placed on relationships, not on stuff. Congratulations to the Seeton family in finding their beloved dog! Nancy from www.AnimalChaplains.com
