Greenbelt and park patrons asked to report campers
Contributed by: Wheat Ridge Police Department on 8/13/2008

The National Democratic Convention (DNC) is expected to have quite an affect on the City of Denver and surrounding communities. Visitors will come to town from miles away and some may not have a place to stay.

The parks and greenbelts in and around the metro area, including Wheat Ridge, are likely to see people sleeping in their cars, motor homes, and tents from as early as Wednesday, August 20, through Sunday, August 31.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department would like to remind our citizens and park patrons that it is illegal to camp or stay overnight in our parks and greenbelt. If you see this activity taking place please contact the police department right away. Police will address the situation before it becomes a larger issue.

With the exception of the baseball fields at Anderson and Prospect Parks which are open until 10:30 p.m., all the other Wheat Ridge parks close from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. and the Greenbelt is open from sunrise to sunset.

Police expect an increase in the usage of City parks during the DNC and welcome those that will enjoy our public areas legally. The City of Wheat Ridge Parks Division will soon be erecting additional signage indicating no overnight usage and police will increase patrol in the areas.

Any suspicious activity can be reported to the Wheat Ridge Police Department by dialing 9-1-1 from within the city limits or by calling 303.237.2220.
