Arlington Historian Lectures at Olinger Crown Hill

Thomas L. Sherlock, senior historian at Arlington National Cemetery, will share the fascinating story of Arlington National Cemetery at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, Cemetery & Arboretum at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3 in the Pavilion of Reflection located at 7777 W. 29th Ave. in Wheat Ridge.

Sherlock has been employed at Arlington National Cemetery since July 1975. In his position as historian, his responsibilities include keeping the history of Arlington National Cemetery, assisting with protocol, public affairs, and security coordination with U.S. and foreign governments.

During his tenure at Arlington, Sherlock shared responsibility for the interment and disinterment of the Unknown American Serviceman from Vietnam, funeral services for the Challenger and Columbia astronauts, and the planning and dedication of the memorial for the group burial of the victims from the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. He also held vital roles in the 50th anniversary events remembering World War II and the Korean Conflict, while assisting with more than 500 visits by foreign heads of State, including over 50 visits by the President of the United States.

He currently assists with public affairs and military protocol for the funerals of the service members lost during operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
