Applewood Plumbing Helps Realize Haven’s Hopes
Contributed by: John Ward on 8/26/2008

For most people, raising a child is an exciting and joyful time; however, many families in the
Denver-Metro area struggle to meet the costs of rearing a child. Disposable diapers alone cost about $125 per month, according to pregnancy.com.
The $1,000 July winner of Applewood Plumbing Heating and Electric's "12 in 12 Caring Community Giveaway" (www.applewoodfixit.com) is Haven's Hope who provides infant supplies to families below poverty level in Jefferson County.
"Applewood is more than happy to be able to give to an organization like Haven's Hope because the organization is such a good example of what a small group of people can achieve," said John Ward, owner of Applewood. "We know that our gift will make a big difference in what Haven's Hope can accomplish in the coming months."
Haven's Hope, a ministry of Harvest Christian Community Church in Arvada, began nine years ago when church members saw a need to provide supplies to families in the community.
There are only about 10-15 volunteers at Haven's Hope who carry out the many community services provided. Every third Saturday of the month is "diaper distribution day." The volunteers deliver diapers and supplies to needy families in the Denver-Metro area.
"We cover about 50 bottoms a month and serve about 38 families," said Site Director Patricia Stecklein. "We are so surprised and grateful to receive this $1,000 from Applewood. We stretch our budget to the last penny and Applewood's gift will make a huge difference."
Even though Haven's Hope is small, the organization is continually trying to expand its services. Specifically, the $1,000 from Applewood will help Haven's Hope during the Christmas season.
"We are planning to use the money from Applewood to give special Christmas gifts to our families during the month of December," said Stecklein. "Haven's Hope is simply trying to do what we can to help families get resources and Applewood has helped us continue to make this possible."
Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric has served the Denver/Boulder Metro area for more than 35 years. The company has consistently been rated one of the nation's top 10 service companies by their customers and has achieved the Nexstar Network Select Service designation and the 2007 City of Golden Rotary Club's Ethics in Business Award.
