City voicemail down and Web site under repair
Contributed by: Office of the Mayor on 6/22/2007

The City's voice mail system is currently down due to equipment failure at the following locations: City Hall including the Police Department and the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center. The City voicemail system is working properly at the Anderson Building, and Public Works Operations because these voicemail systems are different systems. Citizens calling these locations are not impacted.

Calls to City Hall and the Recreation Center will be answered by a staff person during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff is taking extra steps to ensure that all phone calls are being answered as quickly as possible. Citizens can access City Department Staff Listings on the City Web site at www.ci.wheatridge.co.us, which includes e-mail addresses that citizens can use to contact the City.

To address calls after hours or during the day when a staff person is not available, the City is working to set up temporary voicemail machines for departments to use so that callers who are not able to get through to a staff person can leave a message. Currently, the following voicemail machines have been set up and citizens are encouraged to call these phone numbers for information related to the service areas. Additional voicemail machines are on order. The recommended phone numbers to call for information that have a voicemail machine include:

City Administration 303-235-2819

Media Calls/Public Information 303-235-2826

Police Department All phone numbers

Community Development 303-235-2846

303-235-2855

Building Inspection Line 303-234-5933

Public Works 303-235-2861

"The City is working to make sure we are everything that is possible to respond to citizen calls," said Mayor Jerry DiTullio. "I ask that citizens be patient during this time and I apologize for the inconvenience."

The current City phone and voicemail system is over 12 years old and antiquated. Due to the age of the system, the City is experiencing difficulty in finding replacement parts for the system. On June 11, City Council proactively approved funding to purchase a new Citywide phone system which will be operational on July 20. Unfortunately, the current system became inoperable before the new system could be implemented. The new phone and voicemail system will unify and standardize all the telephone infrastructure and equipment in the City.

Please note that the City Web site is fully operational, while some pages are under construction, updated information about the progress of construction of the site can be found on the City Homepage at www.ci.wheatridge.co.us.
