My name:Larry Schulz
My age: 63
My family: Wife,
Pier, two grown children, three grown stepchildren, nine grandchildren, one surrogate grandson.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, English and Mathematics
What I do: I am retired from the Bureau of Reclamation where I was a Policy Analyst. I currently consult in federal grants administration.
My favorite place in town to hang out: My backyard with goats, chickens, gardening and old farm machines.
What I like most about living here: Colorado, the plains, the mountains, the seasons and the people! I especially enjoy my many friends made through community involvement and transportation system advocacy.
My interests and hobbies: Interests include history and historically oriented travel. My hobbies are cooking, home canning, woodworking and antique farm tractors and implements (they were brand new when I used them).
My favorite thing to cook: Short ribs of beef! Usually I cook Italian, French or traditional Americana meat and potatoes.
People who inspire me (and how): There are so many! I am inspired by people who live their ideals and whose efforts match their convictions.
How I have contributed to the community: I have supported policiesthat will strengthen all of Wheat Ridge - neighborhood revitalization, economic redevelopment and community development. As Wheat Ridge's representative to the Denver Regional Council of Governments, I have developed positive working relationships with my peers on the board and the DRCOG staff. I expect to continue in that capacity while treasurer. I am the immediate past chair of the Transit Alliance.
The biggest issues facing Wheat Ridge now: The foundation for the immediate future has been set over the past three years. We need to continue pursuing those goals and policies to harvest resultsthat will ensure sustainability. I hope our citizens and leaders will continue to pull together and carry through on the commitments voiced over the recent years.
Why I am running: Stewardship of the City's resources is vitally important, and I will partner with my fellow elected officials and professional staff to ensure business practicesthat epitomize high ethics and integrity. Much of my career experience serves as preparation for the treasurer position. My overriding interest is to continue improving the health of Wheat Ridge.
