Whether it's for props, paintbrushes or percussion instruments, Colorado teachers spend an average of $400 out of their own pockets to buy arts supplies for their classrooms - that's nearly $400,000 annually! You can help the Colorado Alliance for Arts Education make arts great in classrooms by donating music, dance, theater and visual arts supplies during the 2006 MAGIC Arts Supply Drive. The program will benefit more than 10,000 local elementary students by providing a variety of arts supplies and financial support for arts education programs.
The community can help by donating new or gently used art supplies (e.g. colored pencils, guitars, paint, construction paper, props or ballet shoes) at any metro area Wild Oats Market, Guiry's or Meininger's Art Supply stores through September 30. To make a financial donation or find the nearest donation center, visit www.artsedcolorado.org.
The Alliance will select 40 low-performing, low-income public schools throughout the Denver metro area as recipients of collected art supplies. Having access to the arts in classrooms can help these schools boost academic achievement, build critical thinking skills and foster a fun and diverse learning environment. To learn more about the program or find an application, call the Alliance at 303.778.9374.
The MAGIC Arts Supply Drive is sponsored by the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, Colorado Council on the Arts, CBS4, Wild Oats and St. Mary Land & Exploration Company. A special thanks to our partners, ArtReach, Young Audiences and the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network.
