EWR to host annual meeting for the WRBD

The Wheat Ridge Business District (WRBD) is a 501(c)(3) organization which is sponsored by the city and grants monies to businesses for facade, signage and awning improvements to Wheat Ridge businesses on a citywide basis.

Some of the success stories/grants have been Lewis Candies, Larson Ski and Sports, Wheat Ridge Cyclery, Wheat Ridge Lanes, Meeker Auto Sales, Chase Plaza and All Traffic Data Systems to name just a few.

The WRBD receives $40,000 from the city each year for the grant programs. The WRBD is made up of 11 board members, in which 3 members are appointed by the city council and the remaining 8 by the WRBD membership. The WRBD bylaws state that an annual membership meeting will be held to elect officers.

Enterprise Wheat Ridge (EWR) is a very good networking and education group for local businesses and WRBD supplies business grants. In 2006 the WRBD and EWR merged their membership for efficiency and synergy. If you are a member of one organization you are automatically a member of the other. When a business applies for a WRBD grant, a $100 fee is collected with the following breakdown:

$50 to EWR for membership for one year for the business

$25 to EWR to cover administrative costs

$25 to the WRBD to cover administrative grant costs

In speaking with EWR President Loretta Schwankl and WRBD President Eugene Kiefel, the annual membership meeting for the WRBD will be held at the March/2008 meeting with EWR. At that time, two board members need to be elected to the WRBD board for a three-year term. We will be creating a ballot to be passed out and voted on at the EWR meeting in March. Nominations will also be taken from the floor. Please let this e-mail serve as the 30-day notice required for the WRBD annual meeting notification. If you are interested on serving on the WRBD board, please let one of the nominating committee members know from the WRBD. For more information, please call Britta Fisher of WR2020 at 303-259-1030. Ms. Fisher serves as staff support for the WRBD through WR2020.

Thanks everyone!!
