The City of Wheat Ridge is very excited about the remodel of Wheat Ridge High School and the upgrade of the school’s athletic fields to synthetic turf. At my request, some members of the Wheat Ridge Field Committee have been appointed to the Wheat Ridge Foundation by City Council to support the fund raising efforts. The foundation is allowed to accept public, private and corporate monetary donations to support the upgrade of the school’s athletic fields.
The Cooperation and teamwork between the City of Wheat Ridge and the high school is in alignment with the goals of the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy. I commend the Wheat Ridge Field Committee on their proactive efforts. The synthetic fields will enhance water conservation efforts and should save the school district money on field maintenance. Aesthetically the fields will have a professionally groomed look year round. This will enhance the look of the school and our city.
The long-term goal is that new synthetic fields and track would used to host community events and would be available for use by the Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation Department. Three large athletic areas will be centrally located for use by both the school district and junior athletics. The new synthetic turf will maximize utilization, while minimizing maintenance and water usage.
This is an exciting time for Wheat Ridge High School and the Wheat Ridge Community. I’m looking forward to working on this worthwhile effort with the high school committee.
Sincerely,
Jerry DiTullio
