Hello, my name is
Tracy Langworthy and I am 38 years old. I have a loving husband,
Dave, and a beautiful and spirited 4-year-old daughter,
Rachel. My husband and I have lived in Wheat Ridge for eight years. Rachel is attending the new Norma Anderson Preschool (Aka-Fruitdale Preschool). Our hope is for her to grow up in Wheat Ridge and one day to attend Wheat Ridge High School. We love living in Wheat Ridge because of how the community seems to envelope you.
As a child, my mother moved my sister and I around a lot. Because of this, I find that once I find a place to live I am not inclined to move again. So between not liking to move and the richness of Wheat Ridge, our family has found a place to stay. In the eight years I have lived here I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people. I also have had the opportunity to work with some of them on numerous volunteer projects.
I have recently graduated with a degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Attending school and raising a child has a set of challenges that I could never have imagined. But I am glad to say that regardless of the numerous late nights and ever-present assignments, I successfully completed my course work. I am the Office Manager for Arnevut Resources, Inc. I will have the opportunity to utilize my degree as this is a ground-floor business and I will be in charge of the financial information.
My favorite place to hang out: McDonald's. I can let my daughter burn off some excess energy, which she has a lot, and catch up on my reading at the same time. Although the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center is a close second, Rachel enjoys spending time in their day care center.
My interests and hobbies: I enjoy reading, quilting, and sewing clothes for my daughter because it is relaxing. I enjoy cooking because it gives me the opportunity to provide a meal for my family and spend some quality time together. Finally, I enjoy recycling because it gives me the opportunity, even if only on a small scale, to protect the earth.
My favorite thingto cook: Cookies are my favorite thing to cook because it is something I can do with my daughter and we both enjoy eating them fresh from the oven. Also, cookies make the house smell yummy.
People who inspire me: My daughter inspires me to be a better person. When I look at her, I wonder if I am showing her the right way to do things. I want to be the best person I can be because of her. My mother also inspires me to work hard at everything I take on. And also not to let people push me around.
How I have contributed to the community: I have contributed to the community by taking an active part in it. I am a member of the Wheat Ridge Optimists and our motto is "A friend to youth." I also am a part of the Wheat Ridge Cultural Commission that puts on the Performances in the Park series each year. They offer a program during the day for children and an evening performance for the family. I have been a member of the League of Women Voters for a year and find it engaging and informative. As a member, I gave several Ballot Issue Presentations to help people understand the facts behind each item. Finally, I am currently attending the new Wheat Ridge Civic and Governance class. I hope to learn more about how our city runs and what I can do to make it better.
The biggest issues facing Wheat Ridge now: The biggest issue facing Wheat Ridge right now is change. Wheat Ridge has a strong history of being a tight-knit community. Wheat Ridge needs to find away to balance the need to make improvements that will allow it to compete with the surrounding communities and still retain its hometown values.
Why I am running: I am running for City Council because I don't want to sit at home and complain about how nobody is doing anything. If I don't like the direction our city or even our country is going, then I need to do something about it. It is far easier to just sit and watch but far more necessary to take action to help make the change you want to see for the future.
