The Wheat Ridge High School (WRHS) baseball team (5A State Runner-Up-2007) richly deserve one last time together at Coors Field before the seniors depart for the next chapter in their lives. This group of young men and their coaches have been together, both on and off the field, since their freshman year. They have celebrated victories and suffered defeats as a team. Never once was one individual achievement more important than what the team accomplished as a whole. Their goal four years ago was to win a state championship and this, their final year, they almost accomplished what each and every one of them wanted. As they all said, they didn't lose - they got beat by a better team. Was there disappointment and tears? Absolutely! But the sun came out the next day, the eight seniors graduated, they went to graduation parties, celebrated and relived their "dream season." Unlike the last few summers, they didn't see each other the next day on the field. Most are playing ball this summer, with other teams, preparing for their college careers, and it has been a summer of change. To give them an opportunity to meet at Coors Field, watch the Rockies, talk about their high school careers, say good-bye to coaches, exchange addresses and give their high school days the proper send-off would be so awesome not only for the team but it would be special for the families to know that the 'guys' could be together one last time. There could be no more special place than a baseball field, where their lives came together and where their lives will go in many different directions. As parents, our motto has been "There's no place like home, both on and off the field."
