Wheat Ridge, CO- The Wheat Ridge community has rallied around Martensen Elementary School after the school's recommended closure by Jeffco Public Schools was announced. With the support of the Wheat Ridge community and the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) a new committee has been created to coordinate the efforts to save Martensen Elementary from closure.The Save Martensen Committee will be hosting a community meeting and rally to show the surrounding community's support to fight possible closure. The rally and open meeting is to be held on Monday November 9th, 2009 at 4:00pm at Martensen Elementary School

The closure of Martensen is one of many hasty recommendations made by the Jeffco Public School's Facilities Usage Committee. The Facilities Usage Committee is tasked with
providing options to the district for an efficient use of all district facilities where educational services are provided.Kim Clark, President of Martensen PTA has received offers of help from elected officials, neighbors, and local churches as the local community pulls together to show school officials the impact possible closure would have on the students, neighborhood, and the district as a whole."The impact of closing Martensen after over $1 million dollar was invested into our building just last year would have a detrimental effect not only our district's budget, but it would also hurt the entire local community" said Kim Clark."Our intent is clear, our message is simple closing Martensen is not an option" Said Kim Harr Vice president of the Martensen PTA. "Our purpose in hosting the rally and open meeting is to inform the community about our action plan to save Martensen and to outline the influence closing Martensen will have on everyone in Jefferson County."
