Our summer swim club, the Wheat Ridge Piranhas, is winding up our 8-week-long summer season. We sent 18 swimmers to the league championships and are sending 10 to the state championships state this weekend. Our head coach,
Lauren Williamson, and the team are very pleased with how well our swimmers have done this season. With 43 swimmers on our roster, we are the smallest team in the Foothills Swim Association.
This summer, we are very grateful to have received financial support from LiveWell Wheat Ridge. Their donation indicates their belief in our competitive swim program and their faith in all of our swimmers. We have also received a reduction in usage fees from Wheat Ridge Parks and Rec and other donations from area businesses including: Safeway-Wheat Ridge, Vitamin Cottage-Lakewood, Einstein Brothers Bagels-Arvada, Qdoba-Arvada, Papa Johns-Wheat Ridge and Winchell Donuts-Wheat Ridge.
Not only have we received assistance from the community but we also held our annual swim-a-thon with some swimmers swimming well over 80 lengths to earn donations from parents and friends.
The Wheat Ridge Piranhas is a competitive summer swim club for children aged 5 to 18. Participation provides these children an opportunity for daily exercise as well as learning to compete in the sport of swimming. We've seen these children thrive as they become stronger swimmers, improve their physical condition, win ribbons at meets, and make lots of friends. We are encouraged and excited about the renovation of the Anderson pool that is scheduled to be completed for our 2008 season. Although we are the Wheat Ridge Piranhas, our roster has childrenwho come from Denver, Arvada, Lakewood, Golden and Wheat Ridge. We want to thank our coaches, swimmers, families, the community and particularly LiveWell Wheat Ridge for our successful 2007 season. The Wheat Ridge Piranhas are looking forward to adding swimmers and building this team over the next few years as we compete in the renovated Anderson Park pool!
