i9 Sports cheers flag football season finale
Contributed by: Bill Stahl on 11/12/2007

You couldn't ask for a better weather day in November on which to complete the i9 Sports flag football Golden/Arvada season. Each team played its second of two games in the end-of-season tournament at Maple Grove Elementary School. Afterward, all of the players received trophies, and enjoyed great pizza from Johnny's New York Pizza, as well as a variety of other snacks. It was a super way to finish off a successful season.

The 6-to-7 age division had an exciting championship matchup to start the day, with the Blackhawks, coached by Paul Rowley, taking the crown with a 20-12 victory over the Predators, who were coached by Paul Pastore. The Timberwolves, with Michael Nixon at the helm, beat the Wizards, 26-14, in the third-place game. Fifth place went to the Grizzlies, coached by Chris Yancey, in a 20-0 shutout of the Mustangs, co-coached by Ryan Jonke and Tim Miller. The seventh-place game went to the Thunderbirds, co-coached by Michael Breaker and Jay Thomas, 22-12 over the Wildcats, led by coach Ray Bickner.

The 8-9 age division title went to the Kirk Jacob's Pirates, who finished the season undefeated, in a 32-0 win over the Generals, who had a great season under coach Hugh Wilson. The Tigers, led by coach Skip Norman, beat the Bearcats, coached by John Triolo, 25-12 for third place. The Huskies of Les Masdin took the fifth-place game in a 26-6 decision over Eric Shelite's Lobos team. The Bobcats, coached by Bryce Morgan, took the seventh-place game, 34-18 over the Gladiators, with Chris Grady coaching.

The 10-14 age division title game was a thriller, as the Titans, coached by Clay Collins, converted a conversion after touchdown in the second overtime to down the Bulldogs, coached by Brian Aycock, 19-18. Rodney Sowal's Cougars squad squeaked out a 26-20 win for third-place over the Rebels, coached by Joe Coy and Jim Prugh. Fifth-place went to the Falcons, coached by Richard Drake, in a 31-12 decision over Andy Sappey's Rattlers team. The seventh-place game went to the Hawks, coached by Brian Horn, 38-18 over Matt Roach's Wolverines team.
