Cruise for the Cure - Benefiting Breast Cancer
Contributed by: Sherry Moore on 8/16/2006

I was out running with my dog recently and as the crisp, early morning air brushed against my face, I closed my eyes for a moment and thought about those close to me. I thought about my sister in law who found out she had breast cancer and was given a 20% chance of survival. I thought about how we all cried as she thought about possibly losing her young son; her only child. And then I thought about how God gave her another chance at life and how incredibly well she is doing right now! I thought about my cousin in Boston and her two adorable boys, Jack and Ray. They are in middle school now. My cousin is an eight year survivor. I thought about my close friend Donna and how, after losing her mom, she found out her sister had breast cancer. I had to stop running for a moment to wipe away the tears.

It was that moment that I realized that I could do something - that I could somehow make a difference. After my first book was published, I began contracting out with a locally owned travel company, QueensLander Tours. It is a wonderful job and I have met so many wonderful people. It was this one early morning, however, that I realized that I could use my position with this company, to raise money for Breast Cancer. So as my boss was out of the country and had no idea what I was up to, I started making some calls. Thanks to Kim Christensen of 9News, I found myself on the phone with a representative from the Komen Foundation, Denver Affiliate. By the time my boss was back in town, I had set up QueensLander Tour's First Annual Cruise for the Cure. Since I started this project, I have found that there is not one person I have come across who hasn't been touched by Breast Cancer. Whether they, themselves, were a survivor, or they had a sister, cousin, mother, or friend who had breast cancer or knew someone who had breast cancer. In one way or another, we were all affected by this disease.

And then I met Lynda Larsen. She is the Bald Lady of Coffee and her story is an amazing one. She was as excited as I was about the Cruise for the Cure. She is going to be a host on the cruise and we have some exciting things planned! We are going to have events for survivors and caregivers, as well as events that will hopefully build some life-long friendships.

The First Annual Cruise for the Cure will take place on October 28, 2007 and will be via a Mexican Riviera Cruise. For each person that goes, five percent of their cruise fare will go to the Komen Foundation, Denver Affiliate.

Please visit www.queenslandertours.com or call me at 1-877-865-6711 to get more information. I hope that everyone that reads this will print it or email it to everyone they know. Whether you or someone you know goes on the cruise, or maybe can donate gifts for the survivors and/or caregivers - we can all make a difference! Let's all get together and get on board for Breast Cancer! Thank you! Sherry Moore, Author, Travel Specialist, Mom, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Cousin, and Friend
