Down dark dusty roads
We go late at night
Through fields of green,
This is our last ride.
Your hand on my knee,
The wind in my hair
Bumping along,
Like we haven't a care.
We're running from the future,
Being stalked by the past
They've given us a head start,
Just like we've asked.
The moon casts its shadows
On the maple tree leaves,
And the beat of our hearts
Sounds like butterfly wings.
And we drive and we drive,
With them both coming near
In the glow of the stars,
I watch you shed a small tear.
The rumble of the engine
Sputters and dies
As the very last ounce of gas
Waves us good-bye.
The future is running
On strong steady feet
You hold me closer
We must admit defeat.
The future, he gives us
A horrible grin
As he laughs like a monster
And evil arms take us in.
The sound disappears
The wings of our butterfly-
As the future consumes us
And we watch our youth die.
