I received a notice from the Jefferson County Elections this week. It says that since I didn't vote in November's election that I needed to fill out the attached card, sign it and send it back within 60 days. OK, wait? Since "I didn't vote", what? I voted and so did my husband who also received a notice. At first I didn't think anything of it and tossed it aside.
Then, I got to thinking. Was my vote counted? How many other people received this notice that voted? There was a phone number for questions listed at the bottom so I decided to call. I got a busy signal several times. I waited an hour and then called back finally getting a person. I explained to her that I received a notice saying that I had not voted, but, in fact, I had. She knew exactly what I was talking about and her response seemed very well rehearsed. She explained that they had a "glitch" in their system and lot of people that voted received this mailing. She went on to say that she could verify that I voted by giving her my name, social security number and address. I gave her the info. and she said that I had voted and that my vote was counted. I also had her verify my husband and they had record of him, too.
My concern is that Jeffco wasted money on an unnecessary thing. If people didn't vote, there was probably a reason like they moved out of the county, were out of town or any other reason not necessarily the business of the county. Ultimately, this notice was very adamant about removing you as a registered voter if you did not respond by mail within 60 days which I think is wrong.
Did anyone else receive this or know any more information?
