I date back to 1986 when I moved to town, pregnant with my first child and amazed to have found heaven on earth just a few minutes south of my home town of Aurora.
The first Parker Days... as we "oldtimers" call it... was so much fun then. The parade had kids riding their bicycles decorated to crepe paper and baloons, dressed up dogs, local church floats, the fireman contests and the wild west shootout on Mainstreet.
Lots of the food vendors were local restaurant owners and the food was worth the money! The carnival rides were few and you could park less than a mile away. We still had the bands (my favorite part) and the craft show, but it felt like the money mostly stayed in town in the pockets of the locals rather than carnival ride owners and professional "crafters" that it now includes...
I miss the old days.... What do the rest of you oldtimers think?

Luckily for me my kids are almost grown up... so I just have to fund them 1/2 of an all day wrist band and I don't have to be tortured...

I agree with you Robin... Last year my girlfriend and I went to the craft show, it was sweltering hot and then we noticed her poor dog trying to keep his feet off of the blacktop.. I didn't see any water bowls for the puppies this year either! :(

It will always be Parker Days to me. But, boy, has it changed! That being said... my seven year old would mutiny if we didn't go at least one night for endless carnival rides.

I've been here since the early '90's and I've pretty much avoided the it since it became a "country festival"-not much "country" about it anymore, more like a zoo. Weren't there bed races and firemen with hoses spraying barrels? Or something like that? We went to the craft fair this year, just to see. Who's brilliant idea was it to put it on the blacktop? And where were the real crafters? More like carny stuff. I pity the poor moms who have to push strollers up and down that hill to keep track of all their kids!
