If you don't think public libraries matter, it's because you haven't visited one in a while.
The Boulder Public Library in particular has been buzzing with activity. Whether it's because of the economic situation causing job searching frenzies, or the late spring weather causing a rash of cabin fever, the main branch of the library on Arapahoe (here's a
map of Arapahoe in Boulder) has been a hub for information-seekers, or people just looking for a pleasant, quiet place to read or work.
Lately, the imminent closure of the Meadows branch in the Boulder system has started up a debate over how library dollars are allocated, and whether a closure basically constitutes snubbing a community. However you feel about your local library, getting involved in the online and in-person aspects of your public system is the best way to become acquainted with what's happening.
