Green Building for the future of the industry
Contributed by: Joel Hayes   on 12/26/2007

What is Green Building?

Builder2Builder.com helps develop Green Building and eco- friendly practices to sustain the building industry.

Green Building is the practice of environmentally friendly methods in the construction industry pertaining to all aspects of structures and development. This is becoming more and more common in the construction industry and has created private and governmental agencies which certify buildings based on the degree of eco-friendly techniques used.

What can you do to be part of the effort to go Green?

As the construction industry advances, the need for green building practices has become apperant. Years of building, remodeling and demolition has caused a pile up of waste and extra supplies with no place to go.

There are several things that can be done and are beginning to become popular practice in the industry.

· Purchase salvage goods whenever possible

· Sell unwanted or extra supplies so that they can be reused rather than dropped into landfills

· Use flooring and trim that have been made from renewable resources such as bamboo, or recycled carpet content

· Utilize the flow of water from rain runoff to water surrouding plants and landscape

· Recycle as much scrap material as possible

· Do not install appliances with out-dated emmisions or chemicals

· Utilize natural light reducing electrical usage

What does all this accomplish?

By using these green building techniques the structure has less impact overall on the environment, and the landfills. When you use recycled materials to reduce waste, the building is built with a degree of responisbility that helps to sustain building supplies and increases the overall value. Certified Green Buildings are marketable and desireable they show that whatever is inside; a firm, a store or a family has put thought into the materials and has made an effort to sustain the resources included in the construction.
