I never really used the
Firefox browser
religiously until a month ago.
Sure, I've dabbled a bit over the years, especially because
the young hipsters
in the YourHub.com office swore by it.
But, I reasoned, as someone responsible for a Web site, it is best to know what users are experiencing and the majority of people coming to the site
use Internet Explorer.
Maybe I was just afraid to try something new.
When I landed at
Examiner.com
I switched. It wasn't really a conscious decision. I just clicked on Firefox and never went back. As we were preparing to roll out the new Web site, it just seemed to work better. I could tab back and forth from development servers and check other sites more easily.
Sure, I use Internet Explorer every now and then, mainly to make sure the Web site looks good to the masses. That's important, because to paraphrase a catchy little burger joint's slogan, I have a feeling "We're going to be big."
If you haven't ever checked out
Examiner.com
I invite you to come take a look. We've assembled an awesome
group of Examiners
who are local experts sharing their knowledge with the community.
We also are attempting to be a jumping off point for all of the local news elsewhere that's important to you. It's an ambitious effort, but I think we are up to the task.
It's taken a while for many newspapers to accept that there is life on the Internet outside of their own individual newspaper Web site. We are happy to share this world with others.
For example, in Denver we are happy to point out when local news sources such as the
Rocky Mountain News
,
Westword
and, yes,
YourHub.com
have important information to share. We'll link to them and send you straight to the source. New media guru
Steve Yelvington
sums up this approach by calling us
"refreshingly nonparanoid."
We have just turned on the engines to this thing and are navigating the road bumps as we go along. In my experience, that's the best time to become part of a Web site community.
My boss
Michael Sherrod
calls
Examiner.com
a social knowledge network. Exactly.
Come check us out. But don't leave YourHub.com or any other site you may be participating on or looking to for information to do it.
This is where the Firefox browser may come in handy.

Firefox doesn't allow copy and paste. I have come to depend on that shortcut with Explorer for lots of things. I do like the Firefox browser switching.

And by ultra-hipster I just mean really cool dude, in a nonchalant, semi-cynical kind of way.

John, I was even going to throw in a sentence predicting how I was behind the times and that the ultra-hipsters were on to Opera, but it was much more fun this way.

And by Firefox, I'm sure you mean Opera.
