Father Knows... Something. Let's figure out what.
This is my outlet to share with the world all the things I've learned - and continue to learn - about being the Father to 3 young children. But I should warn you that my experience is probably NOT yours: my wife and I are in the process of adopting a sibling set of 3 - all 6 years old and younger - while in our 40's. We've heard that, "it keeps you young," but so far, it has mostly kept us tired... But like any parent, our kids teach us something new every day and I hope to share at least something here with you at that same pace. The entries will be short - time constraints will probably keep it at or around a mere 200 words - but as they say, brevity is the soul of wit. Let's hope I can create some brevity here. So if you read something you like, please leave a comment. If you read something you don't, please just leave. (Just kidding - I'd love to hear from critics as well.)

All 3 of our children
have personalities that could easily be described as "larger than life." That was clear from pretty early in the process. The thing is - as might well be expected - they all stand out in very different ways; "
M
" is sort of a brainy nerd who is prone to math and science in a big way.
D-Man
has already proved that he not only has perfect pitch but also a perfect sense of comedic timing. He'll do well - in spite of the concerns raised by his table manners...
As for
The Bink
, well, he can be an absolute charmer when he wants to; he has deeply-set dimples and very expressive eyes which combined can easily draw a small crowd. On the other hand, he has a very strong will and a variably-timed fuse so there are circumstances where you never know what to expect. Truly a mixed message, that one.
But the thing that gets me the most about him is that he is so very serious in his communications. Even when he's goofing around with us, he's very into it. And he uses that expressive face of his to prove his point: eyes wide and a long face indicates serious concern. Eyes half-shut and a slight smile indicate that he's trying to pull one over on us. Full dimple-deployment and bright eyes means he's trying to get Daddy to say, "OW!"
He's absolutely the kid of a thousand faces and at least half of them are very, very cute. The other night he was in the kitchen spinning a yarn about "see-kals" and the "citee bus" he sees pass our backyard. He went into story-teller mode and his face adopted an appearance to match.
Out of the blue, his sister pointed to his nose and said, "I love THAT little face." Mommy and I looked at each other and burst into laughter. Only something that true could be that funny.
Wish I'd had the camera nearby...
