Grandaddy G and the World of Opinionated Sarcasm
Welcome to my world of opinionated sarcsm, also known as what's in my "mind" today. I'm an old dude and I have a right to see the absurd side of things and bring them into the light. This is where I plan to wax ridiculous about things that strike my fancy at any particular moment: books (particularly science fiction, fantasy, etc.), music, movies, the government (or lack thereof) and politics. My own likes run to the aforementioned SF and Fantasy, alternate history stories. I like samurai stuff. Music: a wide range of stuff like BLUES, ZZTop, K.T. Tunstall, Sarah Brightman, CSN, classic rock, western swing, classical, Billie Holliday and a lot of stuff in between. I like old movies: Bogart, Errol Flynn, King Kong(1933) ,musicals, ect., as well as newer movies. And yes, I like all six of the Star Wars movies...so there! Anything I say here is my own opiniated sarcasm so either agree with me (your probably more deranged than I am), disagree, or call me an idiot (not that I'm not) and ignore me. After all, one of my mantras is: Imay have to get older and more "mature" but I'll be darned if I'll grow up! I notonly nurture my inner child,I drag him outtoplay. In any case, take me as I am and let's have some fun, ya'll. Mwahahahaha!!

Golden Compass points in wrong direction?
Contributed by: Gary Privitt   on 11/17/2007

So...the Golden Compass (the movie and the book series) are all about "killing God"? Hmmmm. Well, not having read the books (yet) nor seen the film, I can't say anything yet.

It seems to me that some people have too much time on their hands and that (here it comes, folks) some Christians are afraid of or not comfortable in their faith. And before you start...I am a Christian! There, I've said it. My grandfather was a Methodist minister and my great-grandfather was a circuit preacher, so you know I was brought up with the Word.

But my faith is strong enough for me to realize that not everyone shares my views/beliefs. I'm not afraid of Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, or Dungeons and Dragons. I don't believe they promote evil. (And no,I'm not outraged that Dumbledore is gay..get over it, people). In most cases (not all, but most) the heroes are out to stop evil from taking over the world.

Harry was not evil. Just a kid. But the main point here is really that I'm not afraid for my religion. I'm not threatened by a counter-religion point of view. This is supposed to be a country of religious tolerance. I've known so-called Christians who are some of the most hateful, hypocritical people I've ever met.

I'm secure in my faith and I hope others are secure in their faith in Islam, Bhuddism, athiesm or the Prophet Fred. Get over it. Learning about and accepting other ideas does not threaten MY faith. It makes it stronger. and...you'd be surprised at how many truths we Christians hold dear are found in other belief systems. Truth is universal and God is forever.

So there, ya''ll!

Good post! One minor point... atheism is no more a faith than baldness is a hair color.
