Running for office in five elections since 1994, I repeatedly warned Coloradans that the end result of the human rights crime known as the War on Drugs would be the collapse of the prison system. It's expensive to run a police state, and it's especially expensive when society's crime against humanity is to lock up people for a medical issue such as substance habituation.
This week California is wrestling with is 24-some BILLION dollar budget deficit. Der Governator and his legislature are working on solutions which include releasing 27,000 prisoners from the bloated California gulag that passes for a democracy's prison system.
It's coming to Colorado, too. Even Gov. Ritter, who has his own questions to answer regarding human rights, has tried (unsuccessfully so far) to close some prisons. The War on Drugs, conceived by Richard Nixon and enhanced by Ronald Reagan as a cover for government smuggling of heroin and cocaine to fund covert wars abroad, is taking its toll on America and on Colorado. The prison system is about to burst like the rotting pumpkin it is.
Excuse me. I TOLD YOU SO!
