Maybe my red bag adventure is indicative of where I now live - Nebraska. Red.
Cornhuskers. Red. Red houses, red signs, red everywhere. And I didn't even know who Tom Osborn was (former Nebraska Cornhusker coach). For a state without a pro sports team of any kind, they are rabid about their university.
The new place is located in Banner County Nebraska 40 miles from nowhere in a county where the county seat is not even incorporated (seriously). The population of the entire county is 819. My partner and I will make it 821. There is only the one town. It has a bank and a post office. No gas station.
I now am the proud owner of my own piece of heaven at the base of the Wildcat Hills which are topped with cedar and pine (yes, there are mountains in Nebraska).
I am learning a whole new career at Rural Radio Network (me in media, imagine!) and I still get to do some travel and work out of a home office. Radio is a whole different animal - even radio centered around agriculture. For anyone who has the opportunity to listen to KNEB 94.1 (960 AM) in Scottsbluff or KRVN 93.1 in Lexington (880 AM). Please do!
We provide great information to farmers and ranchers as well as great programming (plug). I work with a wonderful group of people - most of whom have been in radio their entire careers. I'm quite the rookie.
So now I have the adventure of moving to look forward to (haven't quite closed on the house yet, but do have permission to paint, etc.).
Hopefully all of you will keep reading my stories - even though I'm now a Nebraskan...stay tuned for more adventures - same bat time, same bat channel!
