How will I approach the office of Mayor?
During my career as a city manager it was my job to give my city councils good advice, protect them from mistakes and to carry out their decisions to the best of my ability.I do not think the job of mayor should be much different since the mayor reports to the residents.
.
The mayor should also have a positive but realistic outlook and vision for the city.It should not be necessary for residents to tell the mayor what to do. He should sense what the community expects and act upon it while keeping an ear to the ground.
.
In order for the mayor to be a good leader, he must earn and maintain the respect of the council members and residents. Respect comes by being competent, informed, honest, sincere and sensitive to the needs of others.
.
Another requirement is hard work and an endless amount of time for the community. When residents contact me, I have and will continue to provide them with the service and time required.
.
Update:I declined an offer from an employee organization to participate in an interview process that would result in an endorsement.I feel that catering to any employee group is a dangerous practice for both parties and an affront to good government.
