Hasta La Victoria! Si Se Pueda!

Now I'm not much of a political opinion writer, i'm one of those people who doesn't always get politics so please bear with me. I'm sure many of you have heard about the whole illegal immigration fiasco that has swept the news. IT amazes me that after all of this time with people from mexico crossing the border and working here, that now the subject decides to cause a stir. I guess it was just time for the bomb to go off. People from mexico are crossing the border illegally to do one thing. They aren't here to terrorize the U.S. they aren't here to blow up they buildings, they are here for one simple thing that means survival for a lot of these people. Work. Yes my friends these mexicans are not here to corrupt America they are crossing our border simply to work earn money and try to live a happy life. Most mexicans would gladly leave mexico and live here in the U.S if they could. Many people suggest that they just go through with becoming a citizen. Well that takes time which is something a lot of these people don't necessarily have. Can you imagine risking basically your life to cross into a nation you know you don't legally belong in and for what, a job. These people come into our country to work. Yes I suppose it's understandable that the government wants to seize these actions. They are coming here illegally. However, the ways and solutions the government has come up with to solve this problem, are quite interesting. Believe it or not they are suggesting a 700 foot wall be built between the Mexican and United States border. That is simply ridiculous. The government claims that having these people here in "our" home is out of control and corrupting, can you imagine what this wall is going to do? You won't have simple civilized rallies and protests. There will be chaos and catastrophe. It will be like starting a civil war. It's a slap in the face to Mexico and it's people to build this wall as a separation between these two countries. Think for a brief moment about things you encounter in every day life. The house you are living in who do you think built that. Not in all situations but in a vast majority mexican's who may not be here legally built that house or had some part in the construction of it. DO you think that would have gotten finished without them? When you go to the grocery store and browse through that produce aisle. How do you think it got there? A lot of illegal workers here work in fields and crops harvesting, packing, shipping that produce to grocery stores so you can buy it at your convenience. Do you think that could be available to you if it weren't for these people. These people are protesting all over the place and they want their voice to be heard. An immigration rally in Denver on Monday April 10th caused traffic jams and crowded subway stations. These people come here to work to support their families, which is something they can't do in Mexico. Protests have taken place on the National Mall, the broad grassy area between the U.S Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial. These protestors come in peace which is why they wear white. They hold up signs that say "Two flags in my heart" "we just want to work" and "we are America we don't blow up buildings we build them." Along with these illegal migrant workers fighting for what thy think is right, there are those who oppose these people and the idea of them working in this country. Some anti-immigration protestors followed the immigration protests holding up their own signs. One read "keep walking 1,800 miles until you're home." People rallied in other places besides Denver. 250 people rallied in Rochester, New York. 15,000 people marched in downtown Indianapolis. 1,500 people marched in Greenville, South Carolina. This protest began with some Hispanic children carrying the American flag along with flags of Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia. 300 children, mostly in junior high skipped school to march and let their voice be heard in Salem, Oregon. Some protestors wore T-shirts that read" Continue the dream, we're all immigrants." This shirt is right we are all in one form or another immigrants. Each and every individual person has ancestors who came to this country legally or illegally for a better life in America which is why you are here today. I have a feeling this whole fiasco will continue to stir up controversy. I think that making illegal immigration a felony is a slightly positive step to fixing the problem. Building a 700 foot wall to separate the United States form Mexico is a huge mistake. There will be more chaos than expected. Think about the people around you the items you possess and the life you live and how it would be different without these people who are just here to work not to corrupt nor cause trouble. They simply want to work. As a hispanic I am very concerned with this situation and hopefully many people see what this situation may have in store for the future.
