Troop469 Eagle Scout Project for the Environment
Tyler Traver, age 16, and members of Parker Boy Scout Troop 469 completed Tyler's Eagle Scout Project on January 26 and 27, 2008. Tyler and his fellow scouts handed out 700 compact flourescent light bulbs and 1000 pamphlets written by Tyler on energy savings at Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Parker. Each person who received a free bulb was asked to sign an Energy Star pledge to "do (their) part to save energy and help reduce the risks of global climate change by replacing at least one light." Four hundred thirty two people pledged to change 3332 bulbs to compact flourescent bulbs. If all 700 people receiving CFLs changed just one bulb, 466,900 pounds of carbon dioxide would be prevented from entering the atmosphere. This would be the equivalent of taking 2767 cars off the road or of planting 111,469 trees over the next seven years. (Source: n:visioncfl.com) It would save consumers $35,700. Tyler's energy pamphlet is available to the public at the Parker Town Hall in Parker. Tyler is a sophomore at Ponderosa High School and lives in Douglas County.
