I am not a liberal zeolot anymore than I am in a conservative cave, but I am continually growing confused. The media continues to beat the drum regarding saying NO to Obama's Health Care Reform. I too might lean no if I knew all the details which no media outlet seems to take time to share. I mean, why cover facts, when you can get such great video of people verbally assaulting one another?
The issue is that the Health Care Systems are broken. There is too much fragmentation leaving way too many to fall through the cracks. In the systems we have there are billions lost to fraud and billing errors and despite some educational efforts, seniors often fail to check their Medicare statements for accuracy. Self-policing could reduce these financial losses. Companies are more and more reducing coverage for pre-existing conditions or they hire more part-time employees so they do not have to provide benefits. Then there are the folks who can't qualify for care and so if they have a serious medical problem they have to go to the emergency departments, then we all get a bump in our premiums. Finally, as a homicide survivor I take great exception that the man who committed that heinous crime enjoys better health care than my eldest son and so many, many others. Has anyone ever seen the 60 Minutes report on how elderly prisoners get priority for organ transplants whether their chance of survival is less than 'Joe or Joan Citizen?'
Finally, this is an issue for the masses and the solution must come from our political leaders but the grassroots efforts are just as important. Rally those creative thoughts, take a moment to care about something more than yourself and put hope for something better ahead of your fear of losing something that works for you. Release your unselfish cognitions and promise to be a part of the solutions not just a blockade to that important first step which is all Obama is trying to address.
I am not writing this as political statement but as a concerned citizen that wants to have some hope!
